A pedestrian was struck and killed by two separate vehicles on Florin Road in Sacramento early Friday morning, and both drivers fled without stopping. The crash happened just after midnight, leaving investigators with no identity for the victim and no description of either vehicle involved.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash was reported around 12:30 a.m. in the No. 1 lane of westbound Florin Road, west of 55th Street, according to KCRA. A vehicle traveling westbound struck the pedestrian, who was in the middle of the lane, and then left the scene. Sometime later, a second vehicle hit the same pedestrian and also failed to stop.

Emergency personnel who arrived at the scene declared the pedestrian dead, the station reported. As of Friday's report, the pedestrian's identity had not been released, and no details about either vehicle — including make, model or any distinguishing features — had been made public.

A Corridor With a Grim Track Record

Friday's crash adds to a troubling history along Florin Road, which has emerged as one of Sacramento's deadliest streets for pedestrians struck by drivers who don't stick around. At least 10 people have been killed by hit-and-run drivers on the corridor since 2018, according to a Sacramento Bee analysis of law-enforcement and coroner records. The newspaper's reporting also found that drivers were traveling at unsafe speeds in nearly half of the serious crashes recorded on Florin Road between 2009 and 2017.

Other fatal hit-and-runs have struck the same stretch of road in recent years. Christine Wilbur, 34, was killed while crossing the Florin Road freeway off-ramp near northbound Highway 99 in September 2019, and 16-year-old Isis Jones was killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing Florin Road near Fawn Way in July 2021, per the Bee's investigation. More recently, CHP searched for a driver who fled after striking a pedestrian on Florin Road near Fawn Way in a crash reported around 11:37 p.m. on Sept. 2, according to ABC10.

Fatalities Climbing Citywide

The Florin Road crash arrives amid a broader rise in Sacramento traffic deaths this year. A fatal hit-and-run on Bannon Street on Oct. 24 pushed the city's 2026 traffic fatality total to 39, with 17 of those victims being pedestrians, Sacramento police told Yahoo News. That compares with 34 traffic deaths in 2024, including 12 pedestrians, the department reported. Sacramento police separately reported 42 total traffic fatalities in 2025, including 24 pedestrian victims.

The Bannon Street crash killed a man found with life-threatening injuries around 4:45 a.m. in the 400 block of Bannon Street near Union Gospel Mission Sacramento, the Bee reported in a separate case summary. Hit-and-runs have also plagued other south Sacramento corridors; eight people have been killed in hit-and-runs on Stockton Boulevard since 2018, per the Bee's analysis, and the county has seen more than 140 people killed by drivers who fled crash scenes since that year.

Not every hit-and-run case in the area has ended without an arrest announcement, though many remain unsolved. In the case of William Akens Jr., 26, who was struck and killed near Lemon Hill Avenue and 65th Street Expressway in April 2025, police released a photo of a silver 2006 or 2007 Nissan Pathfinder described as a vehicle of interest, but no arrest had been announced, according to the same Yahoo News report.

City Safety Spending Lags Behind the Death Toll

A nearly $400,000 grant for Arden Way was announced in January 2025. Even so, the station noted that six people had already died on Sacramento city streets less than two weeks into 2026, a pace that has continued through the year.

No vehicle descriptions have been announced in Friday's Florin Road crash, and the pedestrian's name has not been released.
