An 18-year-old known to frequent the Cleveland area is now the target of a federal manhunt after investigators say he fatally shot the 15-year-old mother of his own child inside an Old Brooklyn apartment complex this past August. Khalil Suber is wanted for murder by the Cleveland Division of Police and the United States Marshals Service, and a reward is now on the table for information leading to his capture.
Police say Suber fatally shot Christine Bogarty in the 900 block of Spring Road around 1 p.m. on Aug. 20, according to Cleveland 19 News. Other outlets reported slightly different response times that day: cleveland.com reported officers responded around 1:30 p.m., while WKYC reported a 1:32 p.m. response by Second District officers. Bogarty was pronounced dead at the scene.
WKYC attributed the second-floor location of the laundry room at the Jennings Commons apartments to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office. Cleveland 19 News reported that a neighbor said the shooting happened in a laundry room there. Two firearms were recovered from the scene, the station's report notes, and investigators have not released a motive for the killing.
Warrant Describes Single Gunshot to the Chest
A Cleveland Municipal Court warrant alleges Suber shot Bogarty once in the chest with a black handgun, according to Fox 8. The warrant names Suber as a third suspect in the case, filed after Cleveland police had already arrested two 15-year-old boys in connection with the shooting, the station reported in a separate account. As of that report, Suber had not yet appeared in court to face the charge.
Family members told Fox 8 that Suber had been in a relationship with Bogarty and was the father of her young child. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Christine Bogarty, per the same account from cleveland.com.
