Ediblend's Utica Square cafe is closing for good this Saturday, October 31, with the smoothie and bowl shop telling customers that co-founder Piper is retiring after 12 years in business. The cafe will serve its last customers until 3 p.m. that day, marking the end of an era for the Tulsa health food brand.
The closure was confirmed on Ediblend's website, which states plainly: “After 12 amazing years, Piper is retiring, and our last day open is Saturday, October 31.” The announcement was also reported by News On 6. The cafe sits on the southeast corner of Utica Square, a spot the business has occupied as it built a following for its plant-based, whole-food menu.
Ediblend's made-to-order menu has long centered on blends and bowls, including breakfast, acai and pitaya options, alongside cleanses, shots, salads and snacks the cafe says are handcrafted fresh daily. The Utica Square location also offered delivery within an eight-mile radius of the cafe, and Ediblend had an app. Saturday's closing hours match the cafe's typical weekend schedule, which has listed 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as its Saturday hours.
A Decade-Plus Journey From Startup Win to Utica Square
The business traces back to sisters Piper Kacerce and Amy Murray, who won a local startup competition in 2014, as reported by Tulsa World. That outlet also documented the launch of a second Ediblend location in the years that followed.
What Made the Menu Different
Part of Ediblend's pitch to customers was its approach to produce. The owners told TulsaPeople that the cafe blends up entire fruits and vegetables rather than simply extracting their juice, saying, “We blend up the entire fruit and vegetable, minimizing waste and maximizing flavor.” That philosophy underpinned the plant-based, whole-food options at the Utica Square location.
Ediblend's closure adds to a string of recent departures from Tulsa's dining scene, though no single cause ties them together. Just blocks away at the same Utica Square shopping center, News On 6 reported that Peppers Grill & Cantina planned to close on August 29, a move that would end a 48-year run there; Utica Square's property owner gave a conflicting August 15 date. Elsewhere in Tulsa, Prism Cafe's Heights neighborhood location was reported to be closing in August amid what Tulsa Flyer described as staffing issues and instability.
Saturday marks the final chance for regulars to stop by before the lights go out at the Utica Square storefront. With Piper's retirement bringing the 12-year chapter to a close, the cafe's last orders will go out at 3 p.m.
