A 36-year-old Vallejo woman who vanished nearly two weeks ago is now the subject of a regional search after the California Highway Patrol issued an Endangered Missing Advisory on her behalf. Serena Walling was last seen on Oct. 17 near Sereno Drive and Broadway in Vallejo, and authorities believe she left the area on foot. No arrest, no vehicle, no witness account — just a woman who hasn't been seen in nearly two weeks and a community now being asked to help find her.
The advisory was activated Thursday on behalf of the Vallejo Police Department, according to The Sacramento Bee. It stretched far beyond Vallejo itself, covering Contra Costa, Napa, Sacramento, Solano and Yolo counties — a wide net meant to catch any sighting across the broader Sacramento and Bay Area region. Authorities described Walling as 5 feet tall and about 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and black pants.
What an Endangered Missing Advisory Actually Does
The advisory used in Walling's case is a specific tool, not the same as an Amber Alert. According to the California Highway Patrol, it exists for law enforcement agencies investigating the suspicious disappearance of at-risk missing children or other endangered persons, pushing information out quickly to the public in hopes of a swift recovery. Officials have not released details about why Walling was classified as endangered, and the Bee's report notes that no additional details about the circumstances of her disappearance were immediately available.
Anyone who sees Walling or has information about her whereabouts is being urged to call 911, per the newspaper's reporting. The CHP's own guidance for the public echoes that urgency: callers should try to note the location, direction of travel, and any vehicle details if one is involved, the agency states on its page explaining the Endangered Missing Advisory process.
Not the First Time Vallejo Has Seen This Kind of Alert
Walling's case isn't the only recent instance of a Vallejo woman prompting a CHP advisory after disappearing on foot. Earlier this year, the agency issued a similar alert on behalf of Vallejo police for 22-year-old Stephanie Perez-Madrid, who was last seen around noon on March 19 near Ohio and Butte streets and was also believed to be traveling on foot, according to KTVU FOX 2. That advisory spanned Solano, Stanislaus, Contra Costa, Alameda and Napa counties, and Perez-Madrid was described as 4 feet 11 inches tall and about 110 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. As with Walling, authorities urged anyone with information to call 911 immediately.
For now, Walling's whereabouts remain unknown, and the five-county advisory stands as the primary tool law enforcement has deployed to try to locate her. Residents across Contra Costa, Napa, Sacramento, Solano and Yolo counties are being asked to stay alert for any sign of the 36-year-old woman last seen walking away from Sereno Drive and Broadway.
