A vehicle smashed through the back wall of a garage at a Jefferson County home Tuesday afternoon and struck a gas line on its way through. The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. in the 6600 block of South Webster Street, and no injuries were reported.
According to kdvr.com, South Metro Fire Rescue said the vehicle went through the back wall and then hit the gas line. That combination turned a garage crash into a utility emergency, with the damaged line demanding immediate attention.
Gas Crews and Firefighters Split the Work
The station's report notes that Xcel Energy crews worked to repair the damaged gas line, while firefighters stabilized the damaged walls. Details from CBS News add that South Metro Fire Rescue's technical rescue team responded to the home at 6654 S. Webster Street, arriving at about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
CBS News also reports that the vehicle was a truck and that Xcel crews capped the damaged gas line to the home. Fire crews then worked to shore up the damaged walls and ceiling after the truck was removed.
Who Is Investigating
CBS News reports that both the Colorado State Patrol and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident. Neither the cause of the crash nor the driver's identity has been made public in the reports available so far.
It also remains unclear how extensive the property damage is or whether the home can be lived in. Those details were not included in the published accounts.
