Virginia Beach has a new place to stock the liquor cabinet. The Virginia ABC Spirits at the Beach store has opened at 1624 Laskin Road, Suite 750, in the Hilltop North Shopping Center, giving locals a fresh option for wine and spirits shopping close to the oceanfront.
The opening was reported by WAVY.com, which confirmed the store is now up and running in Virginia Beach. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., giving shoppers a wide daily window to browse the shelves.
According to a store listing from abc.virginia.gov, Spirits at the Beach offers the broadest range of products of any Virginia ABC store in Hampton Roads. The shop's broad range of products gives the region's bottle hunters more variety under one roof than they've had at other area locations.
How Virginia ABC Operates
The new store fits into a bigger picture: Virginia is a control state, meaning the state government manages the regulation, sale and distribution of distilled spirits rather than leaving it entirely to private retailers. That structure is why a store like Spirits at the Beach operates under the Virginia ABC banner instead of as an independent liquor shop.

Not Virginia ABC's First Upgrade
Virginia Beach has seen this kind of expansion before. Per WTVR, Virginia ABC had already opened premier stores in Williamsburg, Leesburg and Virginia Beach dating back to March 2014. That same report detailed a similar project in Henrico County, where the agency held a grand opening for its Short Pump store at 3450 Pump Road on Dec. 2, 2015.
That Short Pump location encompassed 6,000 square feet and was considered one of four new distinctive retail outlets at the time, the station's report noted. It's a reminder that Virginia ABC has periodically rolled out bigger, upgraded stores across the commonwealth, with Spirits at the Beach now joining that lineage in Virginia Beach.
