A Virginia Beach jury has convicted Angela Britt of second-degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of Deshawn Ginyard, a case that began in 2022 and ended with Ginyard found dead on his bedroom floor. Britt, now 41, was also convicted of grand larceny of a firearm. She is set to be sentenced in January 2027.
The verdict, confirmed by the City of Virginia Beach, closes out a case that stretches back about four years and seven months, closer to five years.
Doorbell Footage and a Woman Waving a Gun
A neighbor's Ring doorbell camera recorded Ginyard and Britt walking toward the home that morning, according to the station's report. The same camera captured Britt leaving alone about two hours later, wearing clothing belonging to both her and Ginyard, per the same account.
Britt was arrested on March 30, 2022, on charges of brandishing a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
Ginyard Found Dead
Ginyard's family, friends and co-workers were unable to reach him before his body was discovered on his bedroom floor on April 1, 2022. Separately, WTKR reported that police found Deshawn Ginyard dead on March 31, 2022.
Investigators learned that Britt had been with Ginyard before his death, according to the 13News Now account. Prosecutors said she gave detectives conflicting accounts of her interactions with Ginyard and at one point asked them whether they had found cartridge casings at the scene. A body scan taken during Britt's jail intake showed what appeared to be cartridge casings inside her body, the station reported.
Additional Charges Followed in the Following Months
While still jailed, Britt was served with additional charges on April 5, 2022, including larceny of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, per WTKR. A Virginia Beach grand jury returned six indictments against her on October 6, 2022, adding second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of murder and brandishing a firearm to the case, the outlet reported.
Britt was convicted of murder, and the case also involved Ginyard's stolen firearm.
Britt's sentencing is scheduled for January 2027.
