A 16-year-old boy was found injured along Kaneaki Street in Waiʻanae on Saturday evening, suffering from a wound to his neck that sent him to the hospital, as District 8 patrol officers now investigate the case as an attempted murder. The injury was discovered at approximately 6:20 p.m., and as of the latest update, no arrests have been made.
According to Honolulu Police
, officers responded to the scene on Kaneaki Street and found the teenager already hurt. He was transported to the hospital for treatment, but police have not disclosed the extent of his injuries or his current condition. The cause of the wound and the circumstances that led to it remain under investigation, the department said.
No suspect information has been released, and police have not indicated whether they believe the attack was random or targeted. Anyone with information about the incident is being urged to call 911 or CrimeStoppers at 808-955-8300.
A String of Violent Incidents on the Leeward Coast
The Waiʻanae case comes just a day after a separate attempted-murder investigation unfolded nearby in Maili. Per the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, police launched a second-degree attempted-murder investigation after a 50-year-old man was hurt during an argument with his girlfriend at a beach park. That incident happened around 9:30 p.m., and officers said the argument escalated to the point where the woman allegedly used a dangerous instrument to inflict what police described as substantial bodily injury.
The man in the Maili case was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remained in stable condition, the Star-Advertiser reported. The woman accused in that attack fled the scene and had not been located as of the paper's report.
September Arrest in a Separate Waiʻanae Assault
This is not the first time this fall that District 8 officers have responded to a report involving harm to a juvenile in Waiʻanae. Last month, officers responded to a report that a woman had assaulted a juvenile, according to KITV. Officers arrested a 35-year-old woman on Lahaina Street on suspicion of first-degree assault in connection with that incident. That case and the attempted-murder investigation now underway are separate reports, and no link between the two has been established.
Statewide crime figures offer some broader context, even though they do not speak directly to this case. The Governor of Hawaii's office reported that in 2025, the City and County of Honolulu recorded 30,758 total offenses, a rate of 3,116.3 offenses per 100,000 residents and a 16.6% decrease from the total crime rate in 2024. The Honolulu Police Department also maintains incident tracking tools, including a crime incidents dataset covering the period from March 13, 2023, through October 20, 2026, though neither resource establishes a specific trend for attempted murders or for Waiʻanae.
For now, investigators have not released further details about what happened on Kaneaki Street or who may have been involved. Police continue to ask that anyone with information come forward as the search for answers in the teenager's case continues.
