A 24-year-old Warren man pleaded guilty Tuesday to a fourth-degree felony count of gross sexual imposition in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, stemming from an incident at a Niles home in 2025 involving an adult woman. Austin Campbell was released on a personal bond and ordered to have no contact with the victim or her family as he awaits sentencing.
According to WKBN, court documents describe the woman telling investigators that she declined sexual contact with Campbell, but that he continued to insist. The woman said she “disassociated,” and that Campbell continued to have sex with her, per the same account.
Campbell will undergo a background investigation before sentencing, the station reports. At sentencing, he will be declared a Tier 1 sexual offender and will be required to register yearly for 15 years, a designation and registration period the article attributes to the court process still ahead of him.
What the Plea Means Under Ohio Law
Gross sexual imposition charges in Ohio fall under a statute that, depending on the specific violation, can carry a presumption that a prison term shall be imposed, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
The case was also covered by WFMJ, which similarly reported that Campbell entered a plea to a reduced charge. Beyond the guilty plea itself, details of the background investigation, the sentencing date, and the eventual sentence have not been made public.
