A 41-year-old Waterloo man is facing felony assault charges after police say he broke a victim's nose and ribs and choked the person during two separate incidents earlier this month. Shawn Standbrook was arrested Tuesday and is due in court next week to answer for the allegations.

Standbrook was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, a Class D felony, along with one misdemeanor count of criminal obstruction of breathing, according to Fingerlakes1.com. The Waterloo Police Department said the charges stem from two separate incidents that unfolded on Oct. 5 and Oct. 11, in which Standbrook is accused of causing a fractured nose and fractured ribs during a dispute.

Investigators also allege that Standbrook placed his hands on the victim's throat, temporarily preventing the person from breathing, the outlet reported. That allegation forms the basis of the misdemeanor obstruction of breathing charge filed alongside the two felony assault counts.

Arrest and Court Appearance

Officers arrested Standbrook at about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to the report. He was issued an appearance ticket rather than being held, and he is scheduled to appear in Waterloo Town Court on Oct. 21.

As part of the case, an order of protection was requested on the victim's behalf, per the same account. Waterloo Town Court falls within New York's town and village court system, which is overseen locally and administered under the broader framework of the New York State Unified Court System.

Separate Drug Case Involving Same Name

A separate report from August described a 40-year-old Shawn Standbrook being charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony, following a traffic stop in Seneca Falls. According to Fingerlakes Daily News, officers discovered that the man had an illegal substance, specifically methamphetamine, during that stop.

That case resulted in appearance tickets and a scheduled court date.

No outcome has been reported yet for either the Oct. 21 court date or the earlier drug possession case. Both matters remain pending before local courts.
