Wauwatosa's Village Christmas Market is set to return Dec. 2-6, 2026, with a new home base on Harwood Avenue in the center of Wauwatosa Village after last year's flood-driven cancellation. German brews and mulled wine are among its offerings. The grand opening lands on Wednesday, Dec. 2, running 4-9 p.m., with the market crossing the footbridge from its old spot to settle along Root Common and Harwood Avenue.

The move is a notable shift for the market, which in 2025 was located in the Harts Mills parking lot south of the Menomonee River, according to OnMilwaukee. The market will be on Harwood Avenue between Wauwatosa Avenue and State Street. The market's offerings have included German food and drink specialties, and an artisan marketplace will feature vendors and traditional holiday merchandise.

This year's return follows a tough stretch for the market's traditional incarnation, the Wauwatosa Christkindlmarkt, which went on what was described as a one-year hiatus after several buildings were damaged by recent flooding, according to FOX6 Milwaukee. The city separately said there was flood-related damage to an electrical panel needed for the event, which contributed to the 2025 cancellation, per CBS 58.

Market Hours and a New Footbridge Route

The market is listed with hours of 5:30-9 p.m. The Tosa Village Tree Lighting takes place the same evening as the grand opening, Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m., and the Tosa Cookie Trail runs Thursday, Dec. 3 from 4-7 p.m.

Visitors can see Santa, and the market will feature live seasonal music.

A European Tradition With Deep Local Roots

The Wauwatosa Holiday Market has long been billed as the only event of its kind in southeast Wisconsin, a traditional German Christkindlmarkt featuring an outdoor vendor village housed in authentic German chalets, according to the City of Wauwatosa. Past descriptions of the market have highlighted German food and drink specialties and a heated festival tent with ample seating for live holiday music and performances. One travel writeup even described chalets imported from Belgium alongside beer, German food and live polka bands in a heated tent, according to Midwest Living/Weekends.

The stakes for a strong comeback are real: the Wauwatosa Village Business Improvement District said the Christkindlmarkt brought in more than 19,000 people the previous year, per CBS 58's reporting. BID representative Chris Leffler told the station he expected the event to return strong in 2026, and FOX6 Milwaukee reported plans all along for the Christkindlmarkt to come back in December 2026. In the meantime, the Village had said it would still hold its other Holidays in The Village events throughout November and December despite the hiatus.

German brews, mulled wine and hot chocolate add to the market's seasonal offerings.
