Weld County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a shooting in the 2200 block of Weld County Road 10, just outside Erie town limits. In an update posted Wednesday, the office said deputies were on scene early that morning and described the investigation as active and ongoing.
What officials have—and have not—said
The sheriff’s office said the shooting does not pose a threat to the community. Its update did not say whether anyone was injured, whether a suspect was in custody, or what led to the shooting. Those details remain unknown based on the information released so far.
A separate Weld County case offers limited context
Weld County has seen other reported shooting investigations, but the circumstances and outcomes vary. In a separate case reported Dec. 3, 2025, The Denver Gazette reported that deputies responded just before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to a residence in the 4200 block of Grand Teton Road; the neighbor who was shot died, and the homeowner was hospitalized in critical condition. That incident was at a different location and had a reported outcome not established in the current investigation. It is one example, not evidence of a trend or an explanation for the Erie-area shooting.
For now, the sheriff’s office’s public-safety assessment is the clearest information available about the incident near Erie. The investigation remains active, and the circumstances and any injuries have not been disclosed.
