Two women are facing criminal charges after Bexar County deputies say they left four children unsupervised inside a West Bexar County home for roughly four hours while making off with multiple items from the property. Nataly Nichole Perez, 23, and Amber Nichole Robisheaux, 40, were booked into jail following the alleged incident on Thursday.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a theft call at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday at a residence in West Bexar County. Investigators allege that Perez and Robisheaux left the four children unattended inside the home for about four hours while taking multiple items and fleeing the scene, as reported by KENS 5.
Woman Was Entrusted With the Children's Care
The Sheriff's Office said Perez had been entrusted with the care of the four children at the time of the alleged incident, per the same account. Investigators later located and contacted both Perez and Robisheaux, and the station's report notes that the pair were taken into custody without incident.
Both women were booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center following their arrests. They face charges that include abandoning or endangering a child and theft, the Sheriff's Office said.
What the Charges Could Mean
Texas law treats child abandonment cases with varying severity depending on the circumstances. Under state statute, an abandonment offense becomes a second-degree felony if a reasonable person would believe the child was left in imminent danger of death, bodily injury, or physical or mental impairment, according to the Texas Constitution and Statutes.
The investigation into the alleged theft and the circumstances surrounding the children's care remains ongoing, authorities said. No further details on the children's condition, the specific items reported stolen, or the women's bond status have been released.
