A 22-year-old man was left fighting for his life after being shot multiple times in the face late Friday night on the 500 block of South Salford Street in the Cobbs Creek section of West Philadelphia, where investigators also found a bullet-riddled SUV and recovered two guns. No arrests have been made, and police say the investigation remains active.
Officers responded to the block around 11:35 p.m. Friday for a report of a person with a gun, according to FOX 29. When they arrived, they found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the face, as first reported by NBC10 Philadelphia. He was found on the roadway near a bullet-riddled SUV, the outlet reported, before being rushed to a nearby hospital.
Police transported the victim to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, per the same report from FOX 29. At the scene, investigators located a 2026 black Cadillac Escalade with multiple bullet holes throughout, and two firearms were recovered. The station notes that no arrests have been made in the case, and officials have not released any details about a suspected shooter.
Investigation Remains Wide Open
Beyond the basic sequence of events, police have offered little else. There is no confirmed suspect description, no stated motive, and no explanation yet of how the man, the Escalade, and the two recovered firearms are connected. Investigators have said only that the case remains ongoing.
The shooting was one of four separate shootings and stabbings that left four people injured across Philadelphia overnight and into Saturday morning, according to FOX 29's report, which noted that all four investigations remained active with no arrests reported in any of them.
A Neighborhood With a Violent History
Cobbs Creek has seen deadly gun violence before. In March, a drive-by shooting in the neighborhood killed two men, 24-year-old Paul Cobb and 24-year-old Naasir Boyd, and injured three others near 60th and Delancey streets around 8:40 p.m., according to CBS News Philadelphia. Salford Street itself was also the site of a mass shooting in July 2024, when a drive-by at a Southwest Philadelphia pop-up party killed 19-year-old Maurice Quain and injured eight others along the 1900 block, with police saying nearly 20 shots were fired from three different firearms, per NBC10 Philadelphia's coverage of that case.
Friday's shooting also comes against the backdrop of an otherwise improving citywide picture. Philadelphia ended 2025 with 222 homicides, a 17.5 percent decline from 2024 and the fewest since 1966, according to The Trace. The outlet also reported that shootings citywide fell 24.5 percent in 2025 compared with the prior year, and that through January 25, 2026, the city had recorded nine homicides, down from 13 over the same stretch the year before.
For now, the circumstances behind Friday night's shooting on South Salford Street remain unclear. Police have not said whether the victim was near or inside the damaged Escalade when he was shot, nor have they identified who owned or was driving the vehicle. Anyone with information is encouraged to cooperate with the ongoing investigation as detectives continue piecing together what happened.
