According to Fox San Antonio, a 36-year-old man was wounded early Sunday in what he told police was an unprovoked shooting on San Antonio's West Side, and officers chasing down leads ended up detaining a person of interest after a foot pursuit nearby. The shooting was reported around 3:30 a.m. in the 5800 block of Culebra Road, though investigators say the gunfire itself didn't happen there.
According to WOAI, the victim told officers the attack came without warning. Police determined that the shooting had occurred at a separate location from where officers initially responded in the 5800 block of Culebra Road, though that stretch of road is where the case first came to officers' attention.
Foot Chase Ends With One Man In Custody
While working the scene, officers spotted two unidentified men matching the suspects' descriptions, as reported by Fox San Antonio. Both took off running, but police caught up with one of them shortly afterward and detained him for questioning. The available reporting does not say whether that person of interest has since been arrested, charged, or released, and it does not identify either man involved.
The San Antonio Police Department said the shooting remains under investigation, per information relayed to the outlet. No weapon, motive, or exact site of the actual shooting has been disclosed in the reporting so far.
Another Recent West Side Shooting
The Culebra Road case follows a separate shooting also reported by the same outlet, in which police searched for a gunman after a driver was found critically wounded at a Far West Side intersection. As noted by News 4 San Antonio, that shooting happened around 3:48 p.m. on a Saturday at the intersection of Culebra Road near Roft Road, when officers found a male driver inside a pickup truck with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition but was alert and responsive, and that investigation also remained open as police continued searching for a suspect.
No further details have been released about the Sunday morning shooting or the status of the person detained for questioning. Hoodline will update this story as more information becomes available.
