West Warwick police have made an arrest in connection with a shots-fired incident on Ottawa Street that rattled the neighborhood overnight in late August, more than two months after officers first responded to find spent shell casings in the roadway and no leads on who pulled the trigger.
According to WJAR, the West Warwick Police Department announced the arrest this week tied to the shooting incident from August. The outlet reported the news under the headline “West Warwick police arrest man in connection with shooting on Ottawa Street in August.”
The original incident unfolded overnight on August 27, when officers responded to a shots-fired report on Ottawa Street, as patch.com reported at the time. Responding officers arrived on scene around 2 a.m. and found spent shell casings scattered in the roadway, according to Patch.
No Victims Found, But Investigation Didn't Stop There
Despite the gunfire, police reported no victims, injuries, or property damage from the incident, per newportdispatch.com. That lack of harm didn't mean the case was closed, however. Members of the department's Patrol and Detective Divisions conducted what the same patch.com report described as an extensive area canvas, with assistance from the Coventry Police Department and the Rhode Island State Police.
At the time, investigators said no suspects had been identified and that the investigation remained ongoing, according to Patch. That update has now changed with this week's arrest announcement.
