The Westin Dallas Southlake has broken ground on a 3,500-square-foot event space addition called The Jewel Box, with construction at the Marriott-owned hotel expected to begin within a week and an updated completion timeline now pointing to a fall 2027 opening. The glass-centric venue, designed to accommodate up to 300 guests for weddings and social events, sits at 1200 E. State Highway 114 in Southlake.

According to Community Impact Newspaper, the project will incorporate the outdoor garden spaces surrounding the building and includes improvements to existing outdoor areas. SRH Hospitality CEO Paul Barham explained during municipal planning reviews in March that the building's shape was inspired by an engagement ring box, which is how it landed its working name, as detailed in Community Impact's earlier coverage of the plans.

What The Jewel Box Will Look Like

The project is described as totaling 5,016 square feet; architectural plans submitted to the city specify 21-foot ceilings, a covered walkway connecting to the main hotel, and an outdoor astroturf lawn fitted with a 30-foot-wide by 8-foot-tall LED screen, per the same earlier report. That combination of indoor and outdoor space is designed to let the hotel host multimedia gatherings outside alongside traditional receptions indoors.

Southlake City Council formally authorized the expansion on April 7 by passing Ordinance No. 480-714A, which granted site plan approval along with a variance to the city's masonry ordinance, according to City of Southlake records. The plans also call for large windows. The state regulatory record with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, filed under project number TABS2026006475, was registered on November 20, 2025, and listed an estimated construction valuation of $4.09 million.

The Westin's Planning History

The 261-room Westin Dallas Southlake opened its doors on November 17, 2021, after being in the works since 2013.

That investment appears to have paid off. Marriott International named The Westin Dallas Southlake its Full-Service Hotel of the Year for 2024 across all brand categories and ranked it number one globally among all Westin properties for guest recommendation intent, according to Cvent.

Why Southlake Hotels Keep Expanding

Southlake's hotel sector posted an average occupancy rate of 75% with a revenue per available room of $144.05 in 2026, well above the broader Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex averages of 66% occupancy and $89.44 RevPAR, city budget records show. Municipal hotel occupancy tax collections have climbed from $1.16 million in 2017 to $2.6 million in fiscal year 2026, with projections reaching $2.8 million in fiscal year 2027.

That momentum has pushed local hotel operators to organize. In June, SRH Hospitality led a joint initiative with all four Southlake hotel owners asking the city council to create a tourism Public Improvement District under Texas Local Government Code Chapter 372 to fund dedicated market promotion, a move the city says reflects the industry's push to attract more regional events and meetings to the State Highway 114 corridor.
