A white SUV crashed into the side of a building on Amargosa Road in Victorville just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday, damaging a gas meter and triggering reports of an active gas leak that shut down a stretch of the roadway. Firefighters arriving at the scene found the leak underway and asked the gas company to speed up its response, according to the initial report.
Road Closed Between Dos Palmas and Cholame
Amargosa Road is closed between Dos Palmas Road and Cholame Road as crews work to secure the scene, according to VVNG. The outlet reports that the crash vehicle struck the side of a structure before damaging the nearby gas meter, setting off the leak that firefighters flagged upon arrival.
Southwest Gas employees were sent to the scene as part of the response, the same report notes. Crews have been working alongside the gas company to assess the damage and make the area safe, and the closure remained in place while that work continued.
Key Details Still Unknown
It was not immediately known whether anyone was injured in the crash, nor what led up to it, per the outlet's reporting. The incident is still considered developing, and further details on the cause of the crash or any injuries had not been released as of the initial report.
Crashes along Amargosa Road are not unheard of in Victorville. Last year, a collision between a silver GMC SUV and a black Freightliner tractor-trailer was reported at about 5:49 p.m. on August 7, 2025, at the intersection of Amargosa and Luna Roads, according to a separate VVNG report. In that incident, a woman was placed into an ambulance and transported from the scene for further medical evaluation, though the extent of her injuries was not immediately known at the time.
Thursday's crash remains under assessment as crews continue working to clear the gas leak and reopen the roadway. Hoodline will share additional details on the Amargosa Road closure as they become available.
