A 20-year-old firefighter from Whitehall Township has been identified as the motorcyclist killed in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Weaversville Road and Atlas Road in Allen Township on Wednesday evening. Lehigh County officials named him Thursday as Jayden J. Sanchez, who served with the Whitehall Township Bureau of Fire.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania State Police troopers responded to the crash around 7:26 p.m. Sanchez was riding a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6 south on Weaversville Road when his motorcycle collided with a 2015 Acura TLX driven by a 16-year-old traveling north, as well as a 2026 Honda CR-V driven by a 55-year-old man also heading north. Troopers have not said how the collision occurred, the station reports. As Daily Voice reports, Sanchez was wearing a helmet at the time of impact.
Victim Rushed To Trauma Center, Pronounced Dead That Night
Sanchez was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg, where he was pronounced dead at 8:11 p.m., per Daily Voice's account of Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio's statement. Buglio has scheduled an autopsy for Friday, October 2, the outlet notes.
The Bethlehem Patrol unit is leading the ongoing investigation into the crash, per NBC10 Philadelphia. The inquiry is also drawing on specialized help from the Troop M Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist Unit and the Forensic Services Unit, the same outlet's report notes, resources typically deployed to map the scene and reconstruct how the three vehicles came together at the intersection.
Roadway Closed For Nearly Five Hours
The intersection was shut down for nearly five hours while troopers investigated, with the road reopening at approximately 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, the Daily Voice report states. Sanchez was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The Weaversville Road corridor has seen serious collisions, including a fatal crash in April 2016 near 1855 Weaversville Road that reportedly split a car in half, according to Newsworking's reporting from that period.
Coroner Cites Rise In Regional Motorcycle Fatalities
Lehigh County's coroner's office, in announcing Sanchez's identity, pointed to a recent rise in regional motorcycle-related fatalities, calling each death a sobering reminder of the toll on families, first responders, and the broader community, according to Lehigh Valley Breaking News.
No charges or citations had been announced as of Thursday, and state police have not detailed how the vehicles came together at the intersection. The investigation remains active under the Bethlehem Patrol unit.
