A four-story Hawthorn Extended Stay Hotel rising along U.S. 301 in Wildwood is already fully framed and enclosed, with exterior painting, stucco work and window installation nearly finished. Photos taken at the construction site on October 14 show crews still working along the upper roofline and entrance portico, a sign of brisk progress roughly a year after the project first came before city officials.

The 98-room hotel sits on 15 acres on the east side of U.S. Highway 301, just south of County Road 462, and will carry gray, white, red and blue exterior finishes once complete. As Villages-News.com reports, asphalt paving and site utilities are also advancing at the property. The project traces back to October 2025, when Sweet Six Properties II, a Doral-based developer, submitted plans for the site.

Planning Board Cleared the Way

Special Magistrate Lindsay C.T. Holt recommended approval of the hotel's site plan that same month, following a meeting of the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board. The project then moved on to the Wildwood City Commission for review. An earlier account from villages-news.com noted that a request for a technical waiver on cornice treatments was denied during the approval process, prompting developers to revise the plans to meet city standards. The hotel's 599 parking spaces were part of the site plan reviewed at that stage.

The property will operate under the Hawthorn Extended Stay Hotel banner, part of the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand family. Rooms are set to include studio and one-bedroom units furnished with king and queen beds. Plans for the site also call for a swimming pool, a fitness center, guest laundry facilities, meeting space and a daily hot breakfast buffet.

First Phase of a Larger Commercial Push

The hotel represents just the first phase of a broader master-planned commercial development. A second phase calls for seven additional buildings directly north of the hotel, totaling 70,871 square feet of retail and restaurant space. A potential third phase would allow for further retail expansion on the site. Plots set aside for that additional development have had site and foundational work completed, though they have not yet seen vertical construction.

A Corridor Transformed by New Retail

The hotel's arrival is part of a commercial building boom transforming the intersection of U.S. 301 and County Road 462, a surge that gained momentum following approval of the adjacent Twisted Oaks master-planned residential community in 2022. A 2.469-acre commercial property just north of the hotel site, featuring a 7-Eleven, fueling canopy and automated car wash, was recently sold to an investment group for $10.71 million. Nearby, a 10,000-square-foot Dollar Tree opened at 8588 N. U.S. Highway 301 in September, with a modern self-storage facility located next door. A Circle K is also under development at the northwest corner of the U.S. 301 and County Road 462 intersection.

Part of a Wider Extended-Stay Trend

The Hawthorn project adds to a growing cluster of extended-stay hotels in the Wildwood area. An Extended Stay America Select Suites property already opened nearby in July 2025, developed by Southern Hospitality as the brand's first hotel to use its new-construction prototype, according to Extended Stay America's franchise division. That company has described its typical guest as staying an average of 30 nights or more, with its Select Suites brand counting more than 200 properties open nationwide as of mid-2025.

A separate WoodSpring Suites hotel has also been proposed in the broader area. Villages-News.com previously reported that the 122-room, four-story project would sit along County Road 106 in Oxford, occupying 51,341 square feet on 2.7 acres with 126 parking spaces. WoodSpring Suites properties are typically pet-friendly and smoke-free with in-suite kitchens, and the company offers lower nightly rates for stays of a week or longer, per that same report.

The Hawthorn chain itself dates back to 1983, when it was founded in Austin, Texas, before later becoming part of the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts portfolio. Most Hawthorn Extended Stay Hotels offer meeting rooms, exercise facilities, swimming pools and a free hot buffet breakfast, amenities that align with what's planned for the Wildwood property as construction continues along the busy U.S. 301 corridor.
