A 37-year-old Wilmington woman is facing felony charges after Delaware State Police say she fired multiple shots at a person outside a New Castle sports bar early Sunday morning, after a physical fight and a later dispute over her purse. Tiffany Morales was taken into custody without incident after the gunfire sent troopers scrambling to the 3800 block of North Dupont Highway around 1:30 a.m.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, troopers responded after reports of shots fired and were told by a group of people on scene that Morales had opened fire at someone. Investigators say Morales was already involved in a physical fight when she dropped her purse. As reported by firststateupdate.com, the people she had been fighting with picked the purse up and handed it back to her — but instead of defusing the situation, Morales accused them of trying to steal it.
Shots Fired, Shell Casings Found
Police say that is when Morales walked to her vehicle, retrieved a handgun, pointed it at one of the victims and fired several times. No injuries or property damage were reported, but troopers who arrived at the scene found spent shell casings outside the building, per the same account from firststateupdate.com. Troopers located Morales and took her into custody without incident; she was first taken to a local hospital for unrelated, non-life-threatening injuries before being processed.
Morales was ultimately charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing and two counts of first-degree reckless endangering. Under Delaware law, a person commits aggravated menacing by displaying what appears to be a deadly weapon and intentionally placing another person in fear of imminent physical injury — a charge classified as a Class E felony, according to Delaware Code, Title 11.
Held on $23,000 Bond
Morales was arraigned following her arrest and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on a $23,000 cash bond, the article notes.
The case lands amid a broader statewide conversation about gun violence trends. A February 2025 report from delawareonline.com found Delaware shootings had fallen to pre-pandemic levels, noting that New Castle County's 2022 homicide rate stood at 5.06 per 100,000 residents, slightly below Kent County's 5.85 and above Sussex County's 4.28. Whether this latest incident fits into that broader pattern is not something investigators have addressed publicly.
