A 30-year-old Wimberley man was sentenced to life in prison Thursday after a Hays County jury found he sexually abused a 10-year-old girl, with investigators later recovering child sexual abuse material from his phone and his DNA from the child's bed. Austin Tyler Jordan was also handed two concurrent 10-year sentences stemming from the same case.

Jordan was sentenced on Oct. 22 after being convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child, indecency with a child and online solicitation of a minor, according to the San Antonio Express-News. In addition to the life sentence, he received 10 years in prison for indecency with a child and another 10 years for online solicitation of a minor, with all of his sentences running concurrently.

The newspaper, citing the Hays County District Attorney's Office, reported Jordan was found guilty on all three charges in July. Investigators determined he had a sexual relationship with the 10-year-old girl that lasted three months, and the case first came to the attention of law enforcement when the San Marcos Police Department began investigating Jordan in December 2022.

Phone and DNA Evidence Central to Case

During that investigation, authorities found child sexual abuse material on Jordan's phone, the Express-News reported. Investigators also recovered Jordan's DNA from the child's bed.

Hays County prosecutor Katie Arnold said the jury and judge were able to see the evidence in the case. Arnold said the life sentence protects both the survivor and other females who might cross Jordan's path in the future, according to the same report.

A Similar Hays County Sentence Nearly Two Years Earlier

Randall Mosbey, 59, of Kyle, was sentenced by a judge on Oct. 18, 2024, to life in prison without the possibility of parole for continuous sexual abuse of a child, as reported by KXAN.

KXAN reported that Mosbey was also found guilty of invasive visual recording, a charge he pleaded guilty to at the beginning of his trial. The Hays County District Attorney's Office said, per that report, that Mosbey sexually abused a child over the course of several years starting when the child was around 7 years old, placing hidden cameras in the victim's bathroom and bedroom before the child disclosed the abuse to a detective during the investigation.

Jordan and Mosbey each received life sentences in cases involving different circumstances.
