A shuttered bank branch on Parsippany's busiest commercial strip is getting a new tenant with a taste for garlic parmesan and lemon pepper wings. Wingstop is moving into the former BCB Bank space at The Shoppes at Parsippany, located at 1470 Route 46 West, giving Morris County chicken-wing fans an option much closer to home.
The bank branch at 1452 Route 46 West closed permanently at the shopping center, according to Parsippany Focus, which first reported the conversion. State regulatory filings confirm the timeline behind that closure: BCB Community Bank, a New Jersey state-chartered institution based in Bayonne, filed a notice of intent with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance to close the branch effective July 1, 2026, with the closure formally completed on July 20, 2026.
That vacancy now clears the way for Wingstop's buildout, though the chain has not released an opening date. The Shoppes at Parsippany is a 54,700-square-foot commercial center near Baldwin Road, anchored by the Delight Big Bazaar farmer's market and an 11,642-square-foot Dollar Tree, according to Citybiz. The plaza is owned by Channel 46 Associates, LLC, which applied for site-plan changes along the corridor, per the same outlet's earlier reporting.
Filling a Gap in Central Morris County
Before landing the Parsippany site, Wingstop's presence in Morris County was limited to two locations — one in Morristown on Morris Street and another in Wharton on Route 15. Area wing lovers have also had to drive to Totowa or Clifton for the closest additional options, the report notes. The new Route 46 spot is expected to spare regional customers that longer trip.
Wingstop built its menu around chicken wings cooked to order, hand-sauced and tossed in a customer's choice of flavor — including garlic parmesan, lemon pepper, original hot, Cajun and atomic. The chain also offers classic bone-in wings, boneless wings and chicken tenders, paired with house-made sides like fresh-cut seasoned fries and ranch or blue cheese dips. Its restaurants lean into a 1930s and 1940s aviation theme, tying into the brand's tagline, “Where Flavor Gets Its Wings.”
A Chain Built for Carryout Conversions
Compact former retail and bank footprints like the Parsippany space have become a natural fit for Wingstop's business model. Digital ordering accounted for 71.6% of the chain's system-wide sales in the second quarter of 2026, according to Wingstop Inc., a shift supported by the company's corporate rollout of its Smart Kitchen design meant to speed up order processing. As of June 27, 2026, Wingstop operated 3,255 locations globally and posted $1.4 billion in quarterly system-wide sales, with a long-term goal of reaching 10,000 units worldwide.
The Parsippany opening also lands amid a broader growth run for the brand. Wingstop was the fastest-growing restaurant chain in the country by net unit growth in 2025, adding 382 net new domestic locations to reach 2,586 U.S. stores, outpacing second-place Chipotle by nearly 100 net additions, per QSR Magazine. The chain maintains average unit volumes near $1.9 million to $2.0 million across domestic stores and closed only five franchised locations nationwide between 2023 and 2025, even as franchisees opened 868 new U.S. locations over that same span.
New Jersey Has Been a Target Market for Years
Wingstop first flagged New Jersey as a priority expansion market back in 2014, announcing plans at the time to open at least 25 franchise locations across the state over a five-year window, according to RestaurantNews.com. Founded in 1994 in Garland, Texas, and headquartered in Dallas, the chain began franchising in 1997 and has since grown to more than 3,000 restaurants across roughly 15 countries, with franchise owners operating about 98% of that global footprint.
The Parsippany project also fits into a wider wave of dining and retail turnover sweeping Route 46 this fall. Burtons Grill & Bar is opening at 1099 Route 46, and a $14 million overhaul is underway at the Morris Hills Shopping Center — a project Hoodline covered when Paris Baguette signed on. No specific franchise operator, permit details, or target opening date for the Parsippany Wingstop have been released. Parsippany Focus says it will provide updates on the opening as more information becomes available.
