A woman is in critical condition after being shot in the chest at a Milton home early Thursday, with officers arriving to find the side of the house riddled with bullet holes and no suspect in sight. Milton police received a 911 call around 2:30 a.m. reporting the shooting, which happened in the 100 block of 15th Avenue East.
Officers were dispatched to the home and, according to komonews.com, saw several bullet holes in the side of the house before finding the woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition, the outlet reported.
Accounts differ on exactly where the woman was standing when the gunfire struck. KIRO 7 reported that she was shot inside her Milton home, while komonews.com's report noted that police did not say whether she was inside or outside the house when she was hit.
Detectives Still Searching for a Suspect
As of the latest reports, the suspect had not been found. Detectives remained at the scene investigating, per komonews.com's account of the overnight response.
According to the News Tribune, the Milton Police Department is actively investigating the shooting, with detectives on scene working to piece together what happened before dawn. The department said a shooter fired multiple bullets through the side of the woman's home, leaving officers to locate her at her residence with the gunshot wound to her chest.
Police Say No Wider Threat
Despite the suspect remaining at large, investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident rather than a sign of danger to the broader Milton community. The incident is believed to be confined to that specific location and not indicative of ongoing risk elsewhere in the city, authorities said.
No further details on a motive, the weapon used, or the woman's identity have been released. The investigation remains active as detectives continue working the scene in the Pierce County city.
