A woman died Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of East 8th Avenue and Dickson Street in Munhall, with the crash drawing detectives to the scene and closing a stretch of roadway for hours. The victim had not been publicly identified as of Tuesday afternoon.
According to WTAE, the crash took place at East 8th Avenue and Dickson Street, and preliminary information showed the vehicle involved was a white Jeep Cherokee. Allegheny County 911 was notified of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision at that intersection around 11:22 a.m., according to Patch. The woman was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Patch reported, and she had not yet been identified when that report was published.
Preliminary information indicated the white Jeep Cherokee turned onto East 8th Avenue from Dickson Street when the victim was struck, the outlet's report notes. Detectives remained on the scene investigating in the hours after the crash, per the WTAE account. It remains unclear whether charges will be filed, according to the same Patch report.
A Brother's Rush To The Scene
The victim's brother told WTAE he was on a bus just one block away when he got a call about the crash. “I got off the bus, ran down,” he said. He also spoke about his grief and his faith in the moment, telling the station, “I know God is with her because I believe in God.”
Road Closures Reported Differently
Accounts of the closure's exact boundaries differ. WTAE reported that East 8th Avenue was closed in both directions between Dickson Street and Library Place, while WPXI reported the closure extended between Dickson and McClure streets, with PennDOT advising drivers to seek alternate routes.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the County Police Tip Line, and callers can remain anonymous, per Patch's report.
The crash adds to a string of pedestrian and roadway fatalities across the Pittsburgh region in recent months. In August, a man died after being hit by a vehicle along Pine Hollow Road in a hit-and-run crash in Kennedy Township, according to CBS Pittsburgh. Separately, a volunteer firefighter was charged in connection with a 2025 crash in Monroeville that killed one person while he was reportedly responding to a call without lights or sirens, per WPXI.
