More than two dozen community members packed into a Main Street storefront on Tuesday to celebrate the opening of the Woodland Strong Resources Center, a new hub offering free help with everything from job applications to college financial aid. The ribbon-cutting ceremony and community open house marked the official launch of the center at 511 Main St., Suite 302, in downtown Woodland.

The center was created to connect youth, families, students and other Woodland residents with free tools and supportive services, according to the Daily Democrat. Visitors can get help with college, financial-aid and scholarship research; education, literacy and GED preparation; and career exploration, training and professional development, the outlet reports. The center also assists with employment searches, résumés and job applications, along with health and human-services navigation, housing searches and resource referrals.

To support that range of services, the center offers access to six computer workstations for visitors who need to apply for jobs, search for housing or complete paperwork online. The space operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed on weekends, per the same account.

Nonprofit Behind the Center Has Bigger Plans

The resources center is a project of the Myndz Resources Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening youth, families and communities through behavioral-health support, education, mentorship, reentry services, employment readiness, resource navigation and community partnerships. George Washington, the foundation's founder and president, said the center offers opportunities, guidance and steps toward a brighter future, the article notes. Washington is also the founder of the broader Woodland Strong Initiative, which the Myndz Resources Foundation describes him as leading as a behavioral-health professional and visionary leader.

The opening celebration was held alongside the Woodland Chamber of Commerce, and the Daily Democrat's report notes that Perfect Union Woodland and Woodland Elks Lodge No. 1299 were recognized as sponsors during the event. Those two organizations supported equipment and resources used to prepare the center to serve local residents.

Part of a Larger Prevention Effort

The resources center grows out of the Woodland Strong Initiative, which launched in March 2026 as a multi-phase program addressing the root causes of substance use, gang involvement, mental-health challenges and community instability, according to the Myndz Resources Foundation. At the time of its launch, the initiative was planned to expand from school-based programming into community mentorship, prevention workshops and behavioral-health peer-support services for young people and families, the Daily Democrat reported in March. The initiative's first phase was planned to serve an initial group of 20 students through programming focused on leadership, emotional intelligence, decision-making and prevention education.

Woodland Strong also lists partnerships with Yolo County Behavioral Health as part of its long-term sustainability strategy, per the foundation's website. That focus echoes priorities identified by Yolo County, which names access to housing, jobs and food, as well as access to mental and behavioral-health and substance-use services, among its community health priorities.
