Police in York are asking the public for help identifying a woman connected to a retail theft case at two stores sharing the same shopping plaza. Officers say she is tied to thefts reported at Walmart and Academy Sports, both located at 2801 E. Market St., and investigators have not yet determined who she is.
According to a posting on crimewatch.net, “Officer Kimbar is requesting assistance in identifying this female in reference to a retail theft at Walmart and Academy Sports.” Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Dylan Kimbar at 717-757-3525, extension 574, or by email. Newport Dispatch first reported on the case, citing the same CRIMEWATCH posting and stating that the thefts occurred on August 8, 2026.
The York store address has turned up in more than one police posting recently, though the details don't all line up cleanly. A separate case listing tied to the same Walmart location on East Market Street names a different officer: the posting states that Officer Snyder with the Springettsbury Township Police Department is attempting to identify a subject in reference to a retail theft that occurred there. It isn't clear from the available postings whether that case and the one involving Officer Kimbar describe the same incident or two separate thefts at the same store.
A Separate Case at a Nearby Target
Officer Kimbar's name also appears on another unrelated posting out of the same department, this one seeking help identifying subjects connected to a retail theft at a Target on Pleasant Valley Road. That case, listed on York CRIMEWATCH, asks anyone with information to contact Springettsbury Township Police at 717-757-3525. The posting does not indicate any connection between the Target incident and the Walmart and Academy Sports case.
Retail Theft Climbing Statewide
The York case lands amid a broader rise in retail theft activity across Pennsylvania. Retail theft offenses statewide increased 16% from 2023 to 2024, reaching a five-year high, according to the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania. The court system's data, drawn from the state's Magisterial District Judge System and Common Pleas Case Management System, spans 2020 through 2024 and tracks monthly offense counts, the top counties for retail theft filings, and defendant demographics statewide.
That statewide total covers filings under Title 18, Sections 3929, 3929.1, 3929.2, and 3929.3 of Pennsylvania law, per the same court system data. The figures don't break out a specific York County total tied to this case or period, and the court system's reporting doesn't speak to the circumstances behind any individual case, including the one unfolding at the York Walmart and Academy Sports.
For now, police have not said whether an arrest has been made in the Walmart and Academy Sports case. Anyone who recognizes the woman described in the Kimbar posting is asked to reach out to Officer Kimbar at the phone number and extension listed above or via email.
