Robert Mondavi Winery is hosting a sold-out outdoor concert on November 7, when Grammy-winning reggae artist Ziggy Marley headlines against the vineyard's golden autumn backdrop. The show follows John Legend's May 14 performance at the winery during its grand reopening celebration, and revives a tradition that traces back nearly six decades.
The winery itself announced the show, saying attendees can expect “a special evening with Grammy Award-winning artist Ziggy Marley” framed by the vineyard's seasonal colors, according to Robert Mondavi Winery. The winery describes the night as the start of a new chapter for the Oakville property, with wine and culinary offerings available for purchase during the event. As The Press Democrat reported, the concert is scheduled from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 7801 St. Helena Highway and is already sold out.
A Tradition Rooted in Margrit Mondavi's Vision
The winery's concert history goes back to 1969, when Margrit Mondavi envisioned live music on the winery lawn, according to the Napa Valley Register. What began as a jazz-focused series evolved over the decades into a mix of genres, eventually hosting top-name acts such as Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald and Dave Brubeck. The paper notes the series has raised millions of dollars over the years to support Napa Valley-based charitable music organizations, framing it as much a community fundraiser as a concert calendar.
By 2019 the series had reached its 50th season, a milestone the Register covered when organizers announced a lineup that year featuring acts including St. Paul and the Broken Bones, The Struts, Thievery Corporation, Rodrigo Y Gabriela and Matt Nathanson. The venue's capacity has historically run around 1,450 people, per the same outlet, giving a sense of scale for the outdoor lawn shows that once defined the property's summer calendar.
Renovation Closed the Estate to the Public
The winery underwent what the Mercury News described as an ambitious three-year renovation reported to have cost more than $100 million, a project that added the new Vineyard Room hospitality wing, home to seated tastings and the private Mondavi Table culinary experience. A separate account from Forbes put the figure at $200 million, describing a transformation that incorporated numerous sustainability features; the two outlets' cost estimates diverge, and neither has been confirmed as definitive. Constellation Brands, which owns the winery, oversaw the project, the Mercury News reported.
Tasting experiences at the reopened winery now range from $60 to $150, with the Mondavi Table meal priced at $95, according to the same Mercury News account. The renovation reflects a broader push across Napa Valley to pair music with wine-country ambiance in intimate settings — a philosophy echoed by programs like Music in the Vineyards, which Wine Industry Advisor reported ran its 32nd season from August 2 to 23, 2026, with Robert Mondavi Winery listed among its venues and a performance titled “Beyond Words” staged at the newly reopened estate.
What Comes Next for Live Music at Mondavi
The Ziggy Marley show arrives as Napa Valley's winery concert scene continues to lean on the formula that built it: live performances, vineyard views and a sense of occasion that draws visitors well beyond the tasting room. After years in which the estate was closed to the public during construction, the winery hosted John Legend on May 14 as part of its grand reopening celebration; the November 7 Marley concert adds to its live-music calendar.
For now, the sold-out Marley show is a headline event in the winery's renewed concert programming, with the venue's own announcement framing it as part of what organizers call an exciting new chapter at the Oakville estate.
