An 11-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Monday evening after a Lincoln Aviator struck him while he rode his bicycle on San Antonio's North Side. The crash happened just before 6 p.m. along Blanco Road and West Craig Place, where the boy had been pedaling eastbound toward Blanco Road moments before he was hit.
According to WOAI, the SUV's driver stopped immediately, called police and stayed at the scene until help arrived. The boy was then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition and the extent of his injuries have not been released by authorities, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Other Children Hurt in Traffic Crashes
The North Side crash was not the only close call involving a young cyclist in San Antonio that week. In a separate incident the same Monday evening, an 11-year-old boy riding a motorized pocket bike was dragged along the road after colliding with an SUV on the city's West Side, off Dugas Drive near Broad Acres, around 6:30 p.m., the station's report notes.
In a separate incident, just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2026, an 11-year-old boy who was walking on the road was hit by a car at Silent Sunrise and Tezel Road on the Northwest Side, according to FOX San Antonio. In that case, the driver also remained on the scene to help, though no word on the boy's condition has been reported. The three crashes involved children and vehicles in different parts of the city.
A Citywide Pattern of Danger for Cyclists
The North Side crash lands amid a grim broader trend documented by the San Antonio Express-News: drivers killed 13 cyclists and severely injured 70 others across the city from January 2024 through September 2026. Since 2021, the paper found, a cyclist has been killed in San Antonio about once every two months on average.
The city has also been adding bike infrastructure, with six miles of bike lanes and shared paths added in 2025 and seven and a half miles more in 2026, with plans for nearly 20 additional miles next year.
