A 19-year-old Adams man is dead after his pickup truck veered off southbound Interstate 81 in Hastings early Friday morning, rolled over multiple times and threw him from the vehicle. Owen T. Ligammari was rushed to a Syracuse hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to New York State Police, troopers responded to the crash at approximately 4:28 a.m. Friday near mile marker 112 on I-81 southbound in the town of Hastings. Ligammari was behind the wheel of a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck, as Oswego County Today reported.
Police say Ligammari was heading south when his truck exited the roadway into the median. He tried to regain control, but the vehicle flipped over multiple times, ejecting him in the process. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he was pronounced dead, according to WWNY.
Investigation Into the Crash Still Ongoing
The exact cause of the crash has not been determined. The station's report notes that investigators have not released additional details about what led the truck to leave the roadway, and no further information has been made public about the circumstances of the crash.
Friday's fatality adds to a string of serious incidents State Police have investigated on I-81 in the broader Oswego County corridor this year. In March, troopers and the Oswego County Sheriff's Office investigated a multi-vehicle crash on southbound I-81 in Richland, between Exit 126 and Exit 131, according to New York State Police. In September, a fatal two-vehicle crash elsewhere on I-81 claimed the life of a woman later identified by troopers as Paige M. O'Donnell, per WICZ.
No further details about Friday's crash, including its cause, have been released. The investigation remains active.
