A fourth suspect has been charged in connection with the robbery-shooting that killed 21-year-old Jaxon Trew Bearden of Alabaster in Birmingham's Ensley neighborhood last month. Breona Marshall, 19, of Theodore, was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Jefferson County Jail still wearing hospital attire, having herself been injured in the same shooting that left Bearden dead.
Fourth Arrest Comes Days After Third Suspect Taken Into Custody
Court records charged Marshall with felony murder, according to WBRC 6 News. Jefferson County Jail records cited by the station said Marshall was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 3. AL.com reported that Marshall, who was injured in the shooting that night, was booked into the jail shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, still wearing hospital attire.
Marshall is the fourth person charged in the case. The station's earlier report noted that two other suspects, 18-year-old Darius Ramone McConis of Birmingham and 20-year-old JaMaries Robinson of Mobile, were arrested within about 30 minutes of the shooting and charged with capital murder during a robbery. An 18-year-old from Stone Mountain, Georgia, Cavalli Jackson, was arrested Oct. 30 in connection with Bearden's death and was taken into custody that day, held at the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
Sources Differ on Jackson's Charge
Reports conflict on the exact charge filed against Jackson. WBRC's report states that Jackson was charged with capital murder, while AL.com's report states that Jackson, 18, is charged with felony murder alongside Marshall. A post from the Birmingham Police Department on X
similarly described Jackson's arrest as connected to Bearden's death and said he had been charged with felony murder. Hoodline could not independently resolve the discrepancy between the two charge descriptions.
ShotSpotter Led Police to the Scene
Police said a ShotSpotter notification called them to Avenue B in Ensley around 9:14 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, where officers found Bearden with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services, where he later died. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified him as 21-year-old Jaxon Trew Bearden of Alabaster, according to WVTM 13.
A woman was also wounded in the shooting and was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound from the same incident, per WVTM 13's reporting.
Coverage of Bearden's death has also diverged on how it fits into the city's broader homicide toll this year. WVTM 13 described the case as Birmingham's 35th homicide investigation of 2026, while AL.com described Bearden as Birmingham's 35th homicide victim of the year. Marshall remains held in the Jefferson County Jail as the case against all four suspects continues to develop.
