A 20-year-old man was shot to death early Sunday during a rave in the Central-Alameda community of South Los Angeles, with two suspects approaching him, opening fire, and then speeding away in a vehicle before officers could catch them. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and no arrests have been made.
According to MyNewsLA.com, Los Angeles Police Department officers were dispatched to a shooting call in the 4800 block of Staunton Street at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday, per the LAPD Media Relations Division. Two suspects reportedly approached the victim before firing shots and running to a waiting vehicle, leaving him dying on the pavement.
The circumstances surrounding the location remain unsettled. KTLA5 and videographers at the scene reported that the shooting took place at a warehouse that was hosting a rave, but the LAPD did not confirm that detail, according to the same MyNewsLA.com report. That gap leaves open exactly what kind of gathering the victim had been attending when the gunfire broke out.
A Pattern of Warehouse and Party Violence in LA
This is not the first time an unsanctioned gathering in a Los Angeles industrial space has turned deadly. The Los Angeles Times has described unsanctioned parties and other illegal activities in downtown LA industrial spaces as a growing problem, and the Fashion District's business improvement district president told the paper that there were 11 parties in the district on a single Saturday alone, according to the Los Angeles Times.
That same outlet reported that two people were killed and six others wounded at a separate warehouse party in downtown Los Angeles early one Monday. The Guardian later amended its own coverage of that incident to clarify that the party was not affiliated with an unofficial Hard Summer music festival afterparty, as noted in the Guardian's report.
Other Recent Shootings at LA Gatherings
Party-related gun violence has struck other parts of the region in recent weeks and months. At least two people were killed in a shooting at a strip mall party near Cal State Northridge on Oct. 2, 2026, according to ABC News. Separately, KTLA reported that a shooting at a South Central Los Angeles warehouse party left at least one person injured after shots rang out just after midnight on a Sunday morning.
In another shooting in the Central-Alameda area, officers found two gunshot victims on East 50th Street — a female victim pronounced dead at the scene and a male victim who died after being taken to a hospital — according to a separate KTLA account. None of these prior incidents has been established as connected to Sunday's shooting.
No details about the victim's identity, any suspect descriptions, or a motive for the shooting have been released. The investigation remains open, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
