A 22-year-old man was fighting for his life Sunday after two gunmen opened fire outside a bar in Philadelphia's Mayfair section, unleashing at least 22 shots that also struck several nearby vehicles. Police responded to the 3400 block of Brighton Street just before 2 a.m., finding the victim shot once in the chest and once in the arm.

The man was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, according to 6abc Philadelphia. Investigators say two gunmen fired at least 22 shots using two different weapons, and several nearby vehicles were struck by the gunfire as well. No arrests have been made, and police are still searching for the shooters.

Mayfair's Troubled History With Bar Violence

Sunday's shooting is far from the first time gunfire has erupted near a Mayfair watering hole. Back in December 2021, three men were shot inside Ralph's Bar on Torresdale Avenue after an altercation broke out, with detectives saying 15 people were inside the business when the gunfire erupted, per the same 6abc report. Two of the men hurt in that shooting were 33 and 38 years old, and police said at least one arrest was made in that case — a contrast to Sunday's still-open investigation.

Other Recent Shootings Have Rattled the Neighborhood

A 15-year-old boy was critically injured in a shooting on the 3000 block of Nesper Street just after 5 p.m., according to CBS News Philadelphia. He was taken to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital in stable but critical condition, and investigators recovered 11 spent shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon or weapons at that scene.

In a separate incident, three people were shot when gunfire erupted after an argument at a house party near Ditman and Knorr streets, according to NBC Philadelphia. Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said that shooting happened at about 10:12 p.m. on a Wednesday, and the three men hurt — ages 24, 28 and 33 — were all placed in stable condition. Small said more than 30 shots were fired, striking a pair of parked cars and two nearby homes; as with Sunday's shooting, no arrests were made, and no firearms were recovered in the house-party case.

Investigation Continues

For now, the latest Mayfair shooting remains an open case. Police have not announced any arrests connected to the gunfire on Brighton Street, and detectives continue working to track down the two shooters responsible for at least 22 rounds fired outside the bar.
