A 74-year-old man was slashed just after 1 a.m. in Brooklyn and robbed of his iPhone, according to the NYPD, leaving him hospitalized while two suspects remain on the run. Police say the attack happened overnight and that the victim was targeted specifically for his phone.
According to News 12, a police source said two men dressed in dark clothing were seen running down Union Street after the attack. The suspects took the victim's iPhone before fleeing, and investigators have not announced any arrests.
The victim was taken to the hospital following the slashing and is listed in stable condition, per the same police account. Both suspects remain at large, and police have asked anyone with information to come forward and contact them.
Part of a Wider Pattern of Street Robberies?
The attack adds to a string of recent robbery reports across Brooklyn. A separate case detailed by Hoodline described a 77-year-old man who was shoved into a wall and robbed near the corner of President Street and Bond Street on October 23, suffering a head injury in the fall before his attacker fled northbound on Bond Street. That report noted police had not announced an arrest or identified the man responsible.
The same report referenced at least a dozen robberies logged along Atlantic Avenue, Flatbush Avenue, and Fulton Street between October and November, and said there was no evidence linking those incidents to a separate case involving a 67-year-old man punched and robbed inside a building on Atlantic Avenue. The October 23 robbery, the other robberies, and the overnight iPhone slashing were separate reported incidents.
Investigation Continues
No arrests have been announced in the iPhone slashing, and the identities of the two suspects have not been released. Police continue to ask the public for any information that could help locate the men seen running down Union Street.
