Abby Lee Miller’s Nov. 1 workshop at Thrive Academy gave Baton Rouge-area dancers a chance to work on audition techniques and a routine. Hosted by Cangelosi Dance Project, the event was described by The Advocate as open to dancers ages 8 to 22 at all skill levels.
Ticket tiers determined which parts of the program dancers could join. The event listing said dancer and VIP tickets both covered warm-up, technique instruction, a dance combination and the audition workshop. VIP tickets also included acrobatics and the “Abby Lee Spills The Tea” Q&A; the Q&A was available separately as well. Participants in acrobatics needed to be able to perform a standing front and back walkover, the listing said.
More than 50 dancers attended, according to The Reveille, which reported that Miller taught a routine before an audition-style cut. About 20 dancers were dismissed, the publication reported. The remaining finalists could take part in an acrobatics lesson, and roughly 10 to 20 dancers received Zoom-class scholarships.
The public Q&A began at 5:30 p.m. after the workshop, The Reveille reported. The event listing showed it as a separately ticketed option, apart from the dancer-only ticket.
