A 30-year-old Adelanto woman is accused of repeatedly stabbing a man with a kitchen knife during a domestic dispute early Saturday, leaving him hospitalized and facing bail set at $1 million. Mariah Green was taken into custody at the scene and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, along with an outstanding traffic warrant, authorities said.
The alleged attack took place about 3:30 a.m. Saturday at an apartment complex in the 18300 block of Jonathan Street in Adelanto, according to the Victorville Daily Press. Sheriff's spokeswoman Jenny Smith said Green reportedly stabbed the victim multiple times during the confrontation.
Victim Hospitalized, Condition Unclear
Paramedics took the wounded man to a hospital for treatment, but an update on his condition was not available, per the same account. Green was booked on suspicion of attempted murder as well as the separate traffic warrant, and her bail was set at $1 million pending an initial court appearance.
Under California law, attempted murder can be charged even when the underlying offense is not completed, interrupted, or prevented, according to California Penal Code section 664. The statute allows punishment for the attempt itself in cases where no other provision governs that specific act.
Echoes of a Prior Adelanto Stabbing
The case recalls another Adelanto stabbing from January 2025, when deputies arrested 27-year-old Randy Angel Serpa III after two passengers fought aboard a Victor Valley Transit Authority bus near U.S. Highway 395 and Palmdale Road, according to Sierra Sun Times. That victim suffered stab wounds to his head and torso and was taken to a local hospital, and Serpa was likewise booked on suspicion of attempted murder and held on $1 million bail. Authorities described that bus incident as isolated, with no other passengers or transit employees involved or hurt.
Statewide, domestic violence-related calls for assistance actually decreased from 163,024 in 2024 to 157,416 in 2025, even as the total arrest rate climbed 3.6%, from 2,673.8 to 2,770.4, according to a report released by Attorney General Bonta's office through the California Department of Justice. The figures do not establish any specific trend for Adelanto itself, but they offer broader context for how domestic violence cases are tracked and prosecuted across the state.
No further details on the relationship between Green and the victim, a charging decision, or a scheduled court date were available as of publication.
