A teenager charged with murder in the Clinton Avenue shooting death of 15-year-old Satour Burns has pleaded guilty, according to prosecutors, resolving both that case and a separate gun charge stemming from a September shooting incident. The 17-year-old, who was 16 at the time of the shooting and cannot be named under New York law according to prosecutors, is scheduled for sentencing on January 27, 2027.

The shooting that killed Burns happened late on June 23, 2025, when officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 500 block of Clinton Avenue near North Lake Avenue, according to authorities. Police found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound to the back, and he was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital, according to timesunion.com. Burns’s father, Ramear Burns, identified him as the victim. Prosecutors said the victim was treated at the scene before he died from his injuries.

The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said it believed the shooter and victim knew each other, though the exact nature of that relationship has not been detailed publicly. A grand jury indictment later charged the 16-year-old with second-degree murder, as well as second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of tampering with evidence, the same outlet’s report notes. Prosecutors said at the time that they were seeking to prosecute the teen as an adult.

Second Shooting Added New Charges

Beyond the Clinton Avenue case, the same teen was charged with firing a gun near Thornton Street and Beverly Avenue, according to authorities, in an incident dated to September 16, 2025. Albany County’s own account places the police response to that gunfire call at around 5:12 p.m. near Thornton Street and Beverly Avenue, while WNYT reported the shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. in the area of Thornton Street and Beverly Hill — accounts that differ slightly on timing and exact location.

In that incident, investigators said surveillance camera footage showed the teen firing off multiple shots, and eight shell casings were recovered at the scene, per WNYT’s reporting. One bullet struck a window of a nearby home and dropped onto the living room floor while a resident was sitting nearby, the station reported. That second incident resulted in no injuries.

Guilty Plea Covers Both Cases

The teen pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, and the plea resolved both the Clinton Avenue killing and the separate September gun case, prosecutors said. He is expected to receive 25 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision, according to prosecutors.

The fatal shooting of Burns came during a violent stretch for the city last year. Times Union reporting at the time noted that Burns was the second person to die by gunfire in Albany within just over a week, following the June 16, 2025 shooting death of 32-year-old Prince Cureton. Sentencing in the teen’s case is set for late January 2027, according to Daily Voice.
