A 17-year-old girl was killed and two other people were injured early Sunday when gunfire broke out near a Halloween party on Arlington Expressway in Jacksonville. Police say none of the three victims had anything to do with the argument that triggered the shooting, and two suspects are still being sought.

Officers responded around 1:42 a.m. to the 6200 block of Arlington Expressway, several blocks east of Cesery Boulevard, according to News4JAX. When they arrived, they found the teenage girl dead at the scene and a second victim suffering from a gunshot wound. A third victim had already driven themself to a hospital for treatment.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the shooting stemmed from a dispute among people standing in line to get into a Halloween party nearby, as reported by Action News Jax. That argument escalated into an exchange of gunfire, and investigators say the three people struck were not involved in the dispute and were not the intended targets.

Conflicting Word on Victims' Conditions

Accounts of the surviving victims' conditions differ. Action News Jax reported that both surviving victims were in stable condition, while News4JAX's report said police provided no update on the third victim's condition. Police have not released the identities of any of the three people shot.

Investigators believe at least two suspects approached the scene on foot. The sheriff's office described them as Black males wearing dark clothing, per the outlet's report, and said it was unclear whether anyone had been taken into custody. Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or who may have captured cellphone video to come forward, noting that multiple bystanders were likely in the area when it happened.

A Stretch of Arlington Expressway With a Violent Recent History

This is not the first act of gun violence on this stretch of Arlington Expressway this year. Back in June, two men were shot at the Regency Inn at 6237 Arlington Expressway — just blocks from Sunday's shooting — and both were hospitalized in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, Action News Jax reported. A woman, Amber Campbell, 36, was later charged with attempted murder and held on $500,000 bond in connection with that shooting.

The weekend's violence wasn't confined to Arlington, either. A separate shooting injured a woman in her 30s early Saturday near 7200 Atlantic Boulevard, not far west of Arlington Road North, according to News4JAX. That victim was also taken to a local hospital in stable condition. And just hours before, officers responded to the 1200 block of Cesery Boulevard around 1:04 a.m. Saturday after reports that two people had been shot, with both victims hospitalized, per Action News Jax's reporting.

Part of a Broader Pattern Across Florida

The Halloween-night shooting also follows a year of elevated mass-shooting activity statewide. A June pop-up party shooting in Jacksonville that wounded a 16-year-old boy, two women in their mid-twenties, and a 41-year-old man was identified as Florida's 12th mass shooting of 2026, according to Jacksonville.com. By that same point in the year, Florida had already logged 12 mass shootings compared with seven over the same stretch of 2025. Still, the outlet noted that Florida's overall mass-shooting count fell sharply from 32 in 2024 to 16 in 2025, even as the Gun Violence Archive tracked a national uptick, reporting 187 mass shootings nationwide as of mid-June 2026 compared with 161 during the same period the prior year.

No arrests had been confirmed in Sunday's shooting as of the latest reporting, and the identities of the three victims remained undisclosed. Investigators continue to seek tips and cellphone footage from anyone who was near the 6200 block of Arlington Expressway when the gunfire erupted.
