Arlington police announced Nov. 3 that a juvenile male had been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of 18-year-old Yoan Del Risco Falcon. The announcement came nine days after the fatal confrontation in an apartment complex parking lot.

A Party, an Argument, and a Shooting Before Dawn

Police responded shortly before 3 a.m. on Oct. 25 to a shooting at an apartment complex in the 3100 block of E. Park Row Drive, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The suspect and Falcon had both been attending a party at an apartment building on that same block, and detectives believe the two got into an argument in the parking lot that ended with the suspect shooting Falcon multiple times, as reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

About 30 minutes after Arlington officers arrived at the apartment complex, Fort Worth police were called to a gas station in the 6600 block of Brentwood Stair Road, where officers found Falcon; he was pronounced dead there, as noted by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Suspect's Flight Ended With US Marshals in South Dakota

Because the suspect is under 17, police did not release his name, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. The newspaper said Arlington police reported that the teen fled to South Dakota, where he was taken into custody Monday. He is awaiting extradition to Tarrant County to face the murder charge.

How Juvenile Certification Works

According to Tarrant County Juvenile Services, certification is a process in which a district attorney asks a juvenile court to transfer jurisdiction over a youth’s felony case to adult criminal court. This procedural description does not establish how often certification occurs or what will happen in this case.

Investigators have not disclosed what led to the argument at the party. The suspect’s extradition and any future court proceedings remain pending.
