The Colorado Avalanche have a new look for the 2026-27 season, and it is built almost entirely around the mountains that surround Denver. The club unveiled a mostly white jersey with blue sleeve stripes, mountain peaks near the shoulders and metallic-silver trim as part of the NHL’s new Hometown Remix program, a league-wide uniform initiative covering all 32 teams.

Colorado’s version leans hard into altitude. As reported by 9NEWS, the traditional Avalanche crest moves to the shoulders while the alternate C logo takes center stage on the front, with the jersey’s overall palette built on that mostly white body, blue stripes and mountain peaks near the shoulder. The Avalanche are scheduled to wear it six times during the 2026-27 season, per the same report. Denver7 described the new sweater as translating Colorado’s altitude and Rocky Mountain landscape into fabric and thread, framing it as the most Denver jersey the franchise has worn yet.

A Mountain Elevation Pattern Woven Into the Crest

The jersey’s signature design element is a mountain-elevation pattern rendered in graduating shades of blue, which appears on the front crest and on the back numbers, according to NHL.com. The sleeves carry additional Rocky Mountain detailing near the shoulders, and the league’s own description says the look is meant to evoke crisp mountain air and new snow. Metallic-silver accents around the sleeves and logos are intended to create a frosted, glistening finish, per the NHL.

Colorado’s sweater is one piece of a much larger rollout. Hometown Remix is a leaguewide special-edition uniform, apparel and headwear program covering all 32 NHL clubs, built to celebrate the fans, fabric and local culture of each team and the city it calls home, the league says. Every jersey in the collection was designed from scratch around its own team’s identity, rather than adapted from an existing template.

Fanatics Says the Collaboration Took Root City by City

Fanatics Vice President of Creative Design Dom Fillion said the program grew out of close collaboration with each club to reflect the history, culture, fabric and identity of every city and fan base, according to a Fanatics press release. Fanatics became the NHL’s on-ice uniform partner and authentic outfitter in 2024, and Hometown Remix marks the first leaguewide special-edition uniform series since the Reverse Retro collection in 2022-23, according to SportsLogos.net, which also likened the program to MLB’s City Connect and the NBA’s City Edition lines.

The design process behind the full 32-jersey rollout began roughly 18 months before launch and was led by Fillion, according to the Sports Business Journal. That outlet also reported that initial orders for Hometown Remix jerseys totaled more than four times the unit volume of the league’s Reverse Retro 2.0 collection from 2022-23, and noted teams are expected to retire the jerseys after the 2026-27 season. ESPN, however, reported separately that the program itself is set to run for only one season, a point the two outlets frame somewhat differently.

Hometown Touches Show Up Across the League

Colorado is far from the only team embracing hyper-local design cues. The New York Rangers’ version uses glittery embellishments meant to evoke sunlight reflecting off Manhattan’s skyscrapers, while the Philadelphia Flyers worked the Liberty Bell’s distinctive crack into their back numbers, both according to The Athletic. The San Jose Sharks, meanwhile, added shark-inspired sleeves referencing the team’s famous arena entrance through a giant shark mouth.

The Athletic’s ranking placed Florida’s Hometown Remix design first, with Anaheim’s jersey landing at second. League-wide, 261 games during the 2026-27 season will feature at least one team in its Hometown Remix uniform, including 19 matchups where both teams wear the alternate look, according to the Fanatics press release. The jerseys, along with matching headwear and fan apparel, are now available through Fanatics’ network of sites, NHLShop.com and team stores.
