A pop-up food business in the 5300 block of White Lane was hit in broad daylight 11 days ago, when a man was caught on surveillance video grabbing the cash register and fleeing in a vehicle. Now Bakersfield police are asking the public for help tracking him down.

The theft happened around 2 p.m. on Oct. 25, according to KGET 17 News, which reported that the Bakersfield Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect and vehicle related to a theft investigation. Surveillance footage captured the suspect taking the register before fleeing the scene.

What the Suspect and Getaway Car Looked Like

Police described the suspect as a male with a heavy build who was bald and bearded, wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and brown pants at the time of the theft. The station's report also detailed the vehicle he used to flee: a silver, four-door sedan with a spoiler and a moonroof with faded paint.

No further description of the suspect or additional leads have been released. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective S. Mayberry at 661-326-3567 or the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.

A Pattern of Register Grabs in Bakersfield

This kind of brazen daytime theft isn't unheard of in Bakersfield. Police said that September 2025 was marked by cash register “grab” and business thefts, primarily targeted at businesses in northeast Bakersfield, according to BakersfieldNow. That wave of thefts led to the arrest of 38-year-old Matthew Solis on Sept. 18, 2025, who was charged with 11 counts of commercial burglary, grand theft, and a drug possession charge, per the outlet's reporting.

There is no indication that the White Lane case is connected to last year's arrest, and investigators have not released any update on whether the suspect or vehicle from the Oct. 25 theft has been identified. For now, police are relying on the public to help close the gap, urging anyone who recognizes the suspect or the silver sedan to come forward.
