A two-car collision in downtown Baltimore sent a vehicle crashing into a building, leaving both cars heavily damaged and prompting a building inspector to check the structure for damage. Police shut down part of the busy downtown corridor as they worked the scene.
The crash happened on the 300 block of West Lombard Street, according to WBFF, which reported that a two-car collision catapulted a vehicle into the building. Officers blocked off the block and redirected traffic around the crash site.
Both vehicles involved sustained heavy damage, the station’s report noted, and a building inspector was called in to examine the damage to the structure following the collision.
A Corridor Already Strained by Construction
Lombard Street is no stranger to traffic headaches even without a crash snarling the block. The roadway carries tens of thousands of vehicles on a typical weekday, according to state figures cited by The Baltimore Banner, which has reported on round-the-clock lane closures tied to conduit-system work that a city transportation department spokesperson said would continue through December.
That ongoing construction has already closed a lane used for left turns from Lombard Street onto Light Street, and shut down two left lanes on Lombard at Charles Street, per the same report. It is not established whether that construction work played any role in Friday night's collision.
The outcome of the collision remains unclear, including whether anyone was hurt or what caused it.
