Two runaway piglets gave Beaufort police officers a workout, leading them on a foot chase through town before being safely captured and returned to their owner. The pigs, both nicknamed Bacon Bits, bolted through the area and sent officers scrambling after them for several minutes before the chase ended with no harm done to anyone involved, human or hog.
Officers with the Beaufort Police Department responded to the foot chase involving the two runaway piglets, according to WTOC. The outlet reported that no harm came to the piglets or the officers during the pursuit, and that both animals were safely captured and returned to their owner once the chase wrapped up.
One Piglet Makes a Break for the Park
The chase took an unexpected turn when one of the piglets suddenly changed direction and bolted toward nearby parkland, according to the New York Post. Officers pursued both pigs on foot for several minutes before finally wrangling them, the paper reported. The department reportedly credited a nearby resident for catching the entire ordeal on camera, writing that an amazing citizen caught the chase on camera.
Per the same report, a local resident shared footage of the chase on Monday, giving the rest of Beaufort a front-row seat to the pint-sized pursuit. The video showed the piglets darting through the area as officers tried to keep pace, eventually closing in and scooping up the runaways.
A Witness Video and a Joking Charge Sheet
UPI identified the person who filmed the chase as witness Kate Morrison, whose video was shared by Explore Beaufort on social media, according to UPI. The wire service also reported that police had some fun with the outcome, joking that the piglets, Bacon Bits, were detained on charges of fleeing and squealing.
Beyond the laugh line, the resolution was straightforward: both piglets were captured and handed back to their owner without incident. For a town that briefly had two loose pigs on the run, it was a tidy ending to an otherwise squeal-filled pursuit in Beaufort.
