Rashard Banks, 24, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury on Oct. 28 on a robbery charge connected to an alleged assault and theft at L&P Market in Beaumont. The Beaumont Enterprise, citing an affidavit, reported that police responded to the market at 2855 Washington Blvd. on Oct. 5. The indictment is a charge; the allegations have not been established at trial.
The affidavit account, as reported by the Enterprise, says the woman told police Banks was her boyfriend and that she feared he would hurt her. Police alleged he slapped her inside the store, took her phone and left in her car. The report says Banks later acknowledged assaulting her and taking her belongings and vehicle. These details are allegations described in the affidavit, not findings of guilt.
The public descriptions of the charge differ: the reported indictment is for robbery, while the Jefferson County Corrections roster lists Banks on a $125,000 bond for aggravated robbery. The available information does not explain the difference. The Jefferson County District Clerk’s criminal index provides a way to search court filings by defendant name or indictment number.
