More than 3,700 people attended the Boise Farmers Market’s Saturday opening at the Idaho Botanical Garden, according to Idaho News 6. Organizers are presenting the East End site as the market’s permanent home, after years of changing locations.
The market’s history helps explain why a fixed address matters. It opened in April 2013 at 11th and Front streets, according to Boise Weekly. In 2019, BoiseDev reported a planned move to the corner of Americana and Shoreline. Capital Press later described the market’s regular April-to-October sessions as operating on year-to-year leased land at 15th and Shoreline, while winter markets used several locations. The market itself says it has moved or significantly adapted its setup four times; that account describes a pattern, not a complete site-by-site chronology.
The new address also begins a winter season. The market is scheduled to run Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Dec. 19, according to BoiseDev. Reports differ slightly on the season’s size: BoiseDev counted more than 70 local vendors, while the Idaho Press said up to 70 would participate.
A new home, with practical questions still open
Parking is one measure shoppers may watch as the market settles in. The Boise Farmers Market says nearby state-agency lots offer at least as many spaces as its previous locations, and identifies more than 800 designated parking spaces in the Old Penitentiary Historic District, including 144 in the renovated Parking Garden. Those figures describe the district; they do not establish how many spaces will be available to market shoppers at a given time.
The opening-day crowd establishes strong initial interest, but it cannot show whether attendance or access will be consistent through the season. For now, the move gives the market a new East End base and a winter schedule in one place; whether the site delivers the long-term stability organizers seek will become clearer over time.
