Bondi Sushi is expanding its footprint on the Upper East Side, with plans for a second location at 1445 Third Avenue, near East 82nd Street in Yorkville. The new spot would sit about 15 blocks north of the brand's existing Upper East Side restaurant at 1140 Third Avenue, between East 66th and 67th Streets.
The Australian-inspired sushi spot confirmed the Yorkville plans to Upper East Site, which first reported the move. No opening date has been announced for the new location, and a liquor license application for the address is already working its way through the city's community board process.
Liquor License Application Clears Committee Review
According to meeting minutes from Manhattan Community Board 8, an entity called Bondi - 1445 Third Avenue LLC, doing business as Bondi Sushi, filed a new application in October for a liquor, wine, beer, and cider license at 1445 Third Avenue, between East 81st and East 82nd Streets. The board's Street Life Committee reviewed the application that same month, and the matter was slated to go before the full board at its October 21 meeting, per the same minutes. The committee notes that its resolutions are advisory, with the final call resting with the governing licensing agency rather than the board itself.
The East Side Feed, which also covered the expansion, reported that Bondi Sushi has completed the community board process for the new restaurant and that the application subsequently moved on to the full board following committee review. The outlet additionally reported that representative Darren Weimer presented the license application to the committee, telling members that dine-in business accounts for roughly 60 percent of Bondi Sushi's overall sales, while alcohol makes up about 6 to 7 percent. Weimer also said, per that same report, that the chain has had no State Liquor Authority violations during its nine years operating in Manhattan — a claim attributed to him and not independently verified elsewhere in available records.
What's on the Menu at the New Spot
A Toast ordering listing tied to the 1445 Third Avenue address shows some of what diners can expect. One standout item is a spicy-tuna crispy rice topped with avocado, jalapeño, and eel sauce, served atop air-fried crispy rice, according to the menu listing. The same listing also includes a truffle-avocado crispy rice finished with sun-dried tomato, red onion, and serrano salsa.
The East Side Feed reported that Bondi Sushi's broader menu centers on nigiri, sashimi, hand rolls, and crispy rice, with an omakase option also available. Co-owner Aiden Carty told the outlet that truffle avocado, spicy tuna, and lobster rank among the brand's most popular dishes across its locations.
A Growing Citywide Footprint
Bondi Sushi launched in New York City in 2017, taking its name from Bondi Beach near Sydney, Australia, according to the East Side Feed's reporting. The brand has since expanded to NoMad, Nolita, Tribeca, Williamsburg, Yankee Stadium, and the Upper West Side, with a flagship location near Bryant Park that opened in January. The chain also operates several restaurants in South Florida, per the same report.
