Bonita Springs has a new place to cool off along Old 41 Road, and it comes with a fountain show that puts most backyard sprinklers to shame. The city cut the ribbon on the Banyan Square splash pad last Thursday, Oct. 29, drawing families for bounce houses, face painting, and free cotton candy as the city's newest park parcel officially opened.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony introduced the neighborhood to a new recreational amenity, giving families and children a place to cool off and enjoy the outdoors, according to Florida Weekly. Banyan Square sits at 27381 Old 41 Road, directly across from Riverside Park, as reported by playingandlivinginparadise.com.

During the day, the interactive play fountain sends water jets up to six feet high, giving kids plenty to dodge and dance through. Once the sun goes down, the display transforms: jets can surge up to 20 feet through nozzles that are controlled individually or in groups, producing dynamic spray effects and sculptural water patterns, per Florida Weekly.

A Fountain Show Built for Nighttime

The after-dark spectacle isn't just about height. RGBW lighting controlled by a DMX system illuminates the water with color for nighttime shows choreographed to music, synchronized with 54 additional lights woven into the historic banyan tree and four more in a nearby oak. The nighttime display also includes four 360-degree speakers positioned around the fountain's perimeter, rounding out a setup that the same report says features 74 lights and nozzles in total.

The very first fountain show was choreographed for the city's Happy Haunts Halloween Stroll, timing the splash pad's debut to the season's festivities. Wright Construction Group, which is credited with transforming the project from concept into reality this past October, had said in earlier plans that it aimed to preserve the historic banyan tree at the center of the site, according to Wright Construction Group. The contractor had also said the project was expected to wrap by mid-September, weather permitting, and that brief detours on Old 41 might occur during construction with advance notice.

More Than Just Water

Beyond the fountain itself, the splash pad uses an integrated filtration and chlorination system comparable to those found in community pools, the same report notes. The surrounding park parcel also picked up new restrooms, shaded picnic tables, refreshed walking paths, upgraded landscaping and irrigation, and improved lighting, giving the small downtown lot a full refresh alongside the water feature.

Bonita Springs Communication Director Lora Taylor said the opening offered a fun, family-oriented evening for the community, per Florida Weekly's account of the ribbon-cutting. Festivities that evening included bounce houses, free face painting, free cotton candy, and characters leading dances and games for the kids in attendance.

Banyan Square's debut also lands alongside other work underway nearby: Phase 2 construction at Riverside Park, just across the street, began in April 2026 and is slated to include new event spaces, accessibility upgrades, pathways, lighting, landscaping, and gathering areas, according to playingandlivinginparadise.com. Together, the two projects point to a broader push to reshape the stretch of Old 41 Road into a more walkable gathering spot for downtown Bonita Springs.
