A Brockport man is facing murder charges nearly two years after Rochester police say he robbed and fatally shot a 22-year-old man during a drug-related robbery on Ellison Street. Naisir Ross, now 26, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the January 30, 2025, killing of Jabriel Henderson.
Police said Henderson was shot and killed during a drug-related robbery on Ellison Street, according to 13WHAM. Investigators allege Ross robbed Henderson of two cellphones and two duffel bags containing a large quantity of marijuana, pills and mushrooms. Police said at least one suspect approached Henderson's vehicle after he pulled to the curb, opened fire, and then fled the scene.
According to WHEC-TV, Henderson was found in the driver's seat of a crashed car with a gunshot wound before he was brought to a hospital, where he died. Ross was taken to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment, per the outlet's report.
The Night of the Shooting
Rochester officers responded around 7:30 p.m. on January 30, 2025, to Ellison Street, where they found a man in his 20s in a car with at least one gunshot wound, the station's report states. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he died. An update published the following day noted that no arrests had been made in the case at that time, leaving the shooting unsolved for months.
The case remained open for nearly two years before Wednesday's arrest in Brockport, a village roughly 20 miles from Rochester. Police have not detailed what new evidence or leads led investigators to Ross, and the circumstances that connected Henderson and Ross before the robbery remain part of the ongoing case.
A City With Fewer Homicides, But Still Unsolved Cases
Henderson's killing came during a year in which Rochester's overall violent crime numbers were trending downward. The Rochester Police Department recorded 36 homicides in 2025, a decrease of 11 compared to 2024, per WXXI News. Twenty-four people were shot to death in the city that year.
The broader trend stretches back further, too. The number of people shot in Rochester fell from 419 in 2021 to 162 in 2025, the station reported, while aggravated assaults dropped from a 2021 high of 990 to 828 last year. Even against that backdrop of declining violence, Henderson's case sat without an arrest for nearly two years before Wednesday's development.
