A shooting on West North Street in the city of Butler sent two people to the hospital Thursday evening, and their conditions had not been released as the investigation got underway. Emergency dispatchers said the shooting was reported shortly before 6:45 p.m.
According to WTAE, dispatchers confirmed two people were taken to the hospital following the shooting, but no information was available regarding the conditions of the patients. The station reported the incident remains under investigation, with no additional details released about what led up to the gunfire or who was involved.
A Street With a Recent History of Gunfire
This is not the first time West North Street has been the scene of a shooting under investigation. In February 2025, Butler city police investigated a shooting around 9 p.m. in the 400 block of West North Street, a separate incident from Thursday's. That report, per the same account, said two men, Dylon Henderson, 19, and Jashawn Johnson, 20, both of Youngstown, were treated for gunshot wounds to the legs at the Butler Memorial Hospital emergency room and were later released.
Henderson and Johnson told police they were in the rear of a car when an unknown person fired into the vehicle, the article notes. Investigators asked anyone with information, video, or anything else pertinent to that case to contact the Butler County 911 Center. The evidence does not establish whether Thursday's shooting on West North Street is connected to the 2025 incident.
Other Shootings Reported in Butler in Recent Years
Butler has seen other shootings investigated around this time of year in the past. On Nov. 5, 2024, police were called to the 200 block of American Avenue for a report of a man shot in the chest, according to the Butler Eagle. At around 10 p.m. that night, paramedics loaded a person into an ambulance before leaving the scene, and police blocked off part of American Avenue as an active crime scene.
In February 2023, Butler police investigated a separate shooting around 2:20 a.m. on West New Castle Street, as reported by the Butler Eagle. That shooting left Robert Green with a gunshot wound through the shoulder; his injury was described as not life-threatening, and he was taken by ambulance to a Pittsburgh trauma center in stable condition. No connection between Thursday's shooting and these earlier incidents has been established.
For now, Thursday's shooting on West North Street remains an open investigation, with the conditions of the two hospitalized victims still unknown.
