At least one person was hospitalized Wednesday morning after a crash on Interstate 75 northbound in Butler Township, shutting down outer lanes of the highway near Benchwood Road during the early commute.
According to a Huber Heights police and fire dispatcher, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and Butler Township medics responded around 6:55 a.m. to reports of a crash on I-75 northbound near Benchwood Road, as reported by WHIO TV. Medics transported at least one person to a hospital, the dispatcher said.
The outer lanes of I-75 northbound beyond Benchwood Road and Wyse Road were blocked because of the crash before reopening, per the same report. WHIO's news team said it plans to update the story as more details become available.
A Familiar Stretch of Highway
This is not the first time this exact stretch of I-75 has made headlines in recent days. A separate crash on northbound I-75 near Benchwood Road on Oct. 30 required firefighters to extricate one person from a vehicle, according to WDTN. The outlet reported that crash involved two vehicles, with one person transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
In that earlier incident, the Butler Township Fire Department said it appeared a car had mechanical problems on the highway and was stopped or moving very slowly before being rear-ended. The available evidence does not establish whether that Oct. 30 crash and Wednesday's crash were the same event, and the details of each should not be combined.
Eagle Dayton reported that the Oct. 30 crash remained under investigation. On X, the account @WHIOTraffic posted an update noting that the earlier accident on NB-75 at Benchwood Road had been cleared.
Commuters along the I-75 corridor through Butler Township have now seen at least two separate crash responses near Benchwood Road within roughly a week, underscoring a rough stretch for drivers in the area as investigators continue looking into what happened.
